How to Narrow Down Your New Home Insulation Options

Are you building a new home? One of the most important things to remember is to look into your insulation options right away. The time to insulate is during the new construction process, when you still have easy access to open walls. Adding insulation after the walls are sealed can be costly, and, not to mention, annoying.

One of the best options for insulating a home is spray foam insulation. This is a chemical compound that can be sprayed into areas that need insulation, such as the inside of your attic’s roof and outside walls. Spray foam insulation creates a more airtight seal when used on exposed walls during the building process. It is compact and airtight, making it our most highly recommended insulation type.

What are the benefits of spray foam insulation?

Keep your home cool.

It’s no secret that it gets hot in Florida during the summer, but a home is supposed to be a refuge from the heat! Unfortunately, without proper insulation, cool air simply doesn’t stay inside your home. You can spend a fortune on air conditioning and put a fan in every room, but cooled air can escape through the walls. Start your project out right with spray foam insulation to block air leaks before they start. In addition to keeping your home cool in the summer, it will also keep the warm air inside during the winter when things get chilly.

Keep allergens out.

Without proper insulation, air can flow freely through your home from the outside. That outside air can carry allergens with it. Building the home with good insulation can stop allergens, such as pollen, from creeping in, making the home’s residents more comfortable and relieve allergy symptoms.

Prevent mold.

When moisture seeps into your walls, it may start to make itself at home. Mold and mildew begin to grow, and they are some nasty house guests. Inhaling mold spores can produce symptoms similar to allergies, like coughing, sneezing, and itchy skin. Spray foam insulation is water-resistant; it keeps the water out of your walls to begin with so that mold has no chance to grow.

Are there other new home insulation options?

Of course, spray foam is not the only way to insulate a house. Consider Kraft-Faced Insulation. This is a formaldehyde-free fiberglass insulation type that can be made to fit any area in your home. It is most effective on walls and floors, and its paper lining helps to keep out mold.
